MAUSOLEUMS OF REVASH

The Revash Mausoleums are in the Santo Tomás district, Luya province, in the Amazonas department. The constructions form a necropolis that is attributed to the Chachapoyas culture.

The Mausoleums of Revash were collective tombs that used natural caves or excavated in the rocky walls of a ravine.

Although there are still not many certainties about these mausoleums, the Archaeologist Federico Kauffman Doig, tells us that according to his theory the Revash Mausoleums are replicas of the houses where the inhabitants of the area lived.

These mausoleums are also known as chullpas and were painted with the colors red and white, in addition to having the shape of houses, they have T-shaped windows and have 2-sided roofs, likewise on the facades we can see drawings of animals and people that can be seen as rock art and are painted in ocher, as well as decorations with geometric motifs characteristic of the Chachapoyas to symbolize their gods.

This complex is known to date from 1100 to 1300 AD. and occupies an area of almost 200 m2, they are not easily accessible and to get there you need to do a 1 hour walk from the town of Santo Tomás just to be able to see the buildings that are on the slope of a ravine.
