THE GOLDEN HUMMINGBIRD

29 April 2021

It was a distant and risky journey, since to reach the Uku Pacha he had to reach the depths of the jungle.

The story goes that one morning the Andean hummingbirds woke up with a strange presentiment and just at noon a strange rain began to fall while the Inti god was still in the sky, so, fatigued and worried about their presentiment, they decided to summon the great council of hummingbirds of the andes. At this meeting they reached a consensus and the leaders said “For our people it is very important to be in contact with our ancestors, something has happened this morning and we have to do something. That is why we need to send one of us to the depths of the Uku Pacha ”. A deadly mission that would heal the differences between this world and the realm of their ancestors. For this mission they chose Muru Muru, a hardworking hummingbird, great father and great husband, he was unanimously chosen for his peculiar gray and multicolored plumage and his impeccable reputation.

It was a distant and risky journey, since to reach the Uku Pacha he had to reach the depths of the jungle. But they already had an idea of how to make the trip to the jungle, it was common among them that, when making long trips, they hid in the pututos of the chaskis, who were the messengers of the Inca empire. The chaskis were so well organized that they traveled all the routes of the empire, he only had to take into account to exchange pututo when the chaski passed the post to another chaski. The road that connects the city of Cusco with the secret city of “Patiti” was the route that Muru Muru needed to reach the depths of the jungle. It was a secret path, jealously guarded by the Chaskis, so that no one would know of its location.

Once in the jungle, Muru Muru leaves his lair and goes in search of the great river where the Yacumana, the great serpent of the forest, dwells. He had to find her, as it was his next transport to Uku pacha. The great boa did not notice the presence of Muru Muru and he takes advantage of a yawn from Yacaumana to get between his sharp teeth, this without having knowledge of his little passenger begins his journey into the depths and once they reach Uku Pacha, Mur Muru flies through his nose and realizes the differences with his world, where colors, aromas, sounds and celestial lights do not cease. He begins the search for the ancestors who are before him and finds them flying among the aromatic flowers of this place. They told him that he had to speak in front of the superior clan of the people of the world below.
His ancestors agreed that, to solve the impasse, Muru Muru had to return to the forest and go to Patiti, the city of gold, and when he reached the top of the highest pyramid he had to rest for a moment next to the golden korenkeke since for them it would be a privilege and would solve all the inconveniences created.

Muru Muru agreed and left for Patiti, but when he perched next to the Inca sacred bird, he solidified and transformed into gold, calling himself Qoriq’ente: the Inca golden hummingbird and sacred bird. This privileged position was achieved thanks to his cunning and sacrifice, from that moment on, his descendants would proudly call him Qoriq’ente, the golden hummingbird that rests on the altars of the sacred golden city of the Incas. .
